An Alabama family gathering.
We all know that it’s a rare thing nowadays to have the whole family come together. We all say ‘we need to do this more’ and our hearts mean well, but then before we know it, another year has passed. Time doesn’t pause for our busy schedules, and the kids certainly don’t age slower because we’re caught up in work.
We HAVE to document these moments. They are precious. They are what we hold on to when the years rush by.
I’ve just returned back from the United States, where I got to meet my husband’s family for the first time. As we chatted, they shared memories of sitting on their Mimi’s floor, flipping through family photo albums - laughing, reminiscing and asking questions about their relatives.
That is sadly a lost art with the age of technology. I LOVE that we all have a camera in our pocket...but how often do we look back on them?
That’s why capturing these moments at the family gathering was so special. This was so personal to capture. I look back on these and I can smell, hear and feel everything as if I was there again...and to know that these will be printed, placed in photo albums and the tradition will live on through the grandchildren?
Well, that’s the beautiful thing about passing down stories. Our families live on, even when we’re gone.
